I find it’s best to start these introductions with a question. What do you want to be known for?
I want to be known for my fiction, humor, and thought-provoking essays. My writing is entertaining, but it’s got a side dish of helpful knowledge. Picture steak, potatoes, and asparagus—solid, satisfying, and you can’t go wrong with it.
When people ask about my genre, I usually land on science fiction fantasy. Imagine a mix of Stephen King’s storytelling, Quentin Tarantino’s dialogue, and my personal dark humor, where characters tumble into situations where just about everything that can go wrong does go wrong. I write it that way naturally—unstoppable and relentless.
Currently I only have time to write fiction, So publishing my essays will have to wait for a later date. With that said,On the non-fiction side, I write essays on social issues and articles about personal and business strategies. One of my recent favorites is about the importance of calculating student debt before committing to college. It’s a topic that’s become more relevant as average U.S. student loan debt hovers around $30,000, while the average salary for those graduates is only about $48,000 a year.
These topics interest me because they spark thought—and sometimes frustration. Writing these articles gives me a sense of contributing to society. But to make an impact, I know I need to publish and build an audience; otherwise, my words won’t reach anyone.
Thanks for reading. Time to get to work!
